September 19, 2017: Asian Water Cycle Initiative (AWCI) Session for the 10th GEOSS Asia Pacific Symposium in Hanoi, Vietnam

The the Asian Water Cycle Initiative (AWCI) Session was convened on September 19, 2017 in Hanoi, Vietnam, as a sectional meeting of the 10th Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) Asia-Pacific Symposium. The session was co-chaired by Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duong, Institute of Geography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Li Jia, Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI), Chinese Academy of Science, and Prof. Toshio Koike, the executive director of ICHARM, and GEO Water-related activities in Vietnam were reported at first. In addition, Task 6 of AOGEOSS (Monitoring and evaluation of drought in Asia-Oceania region) and related activities on Observation, Data Integration and Information Dissemination were introduced, and representatives from the Philippines and Sri Langka reported the progress of the Platform on Water and Disasters in their countries. Then, fruitful discussions followed on concerted actions in Asia-Oceania region to be taken for the three global key agendas, Sendai Framework, SDGs and Paris Agreement, and to plans of UN Decade of Action "Water for Sustainable Development" (2018-2028).
